The site started as a simple idea: really get to know one part of the world at a time instead of skimming everywhere. That curiosity is still the whole point. It just took a sharper shape — deep, specific, practical guides you can act on, rather than another travel blog of pretty snapshots.
What we make
Ultimate Ship Guides. One megaship, one book. Which cabins to book and which to avoid, what to reserve on day one, where to eat, how to skip the lines, and a ready-made plan for every port. Written for first-timers, families, and seasoned cruisers alike — and specific to your exact ship, not a generic cruise primer.
The No-Nonsense Guide to Retiring Abroad. What it actually costs, what the residency route really requires, how healthcare works, and where you would want to wake up. Sourced numbers, not wishful averages — the way you would research your own move. Spain, Portugal, Mexico and Greece are out now, with more countries on the way.
National Parks (in progress). Twenty to thirty parks, each getting the same treatment: where to sleep, which trail earns the early start, and how to see a park properly in the days you actually have.
How the guides are made
Every guide is researched top to bottom and written to a simple standard: honest, detailed, and specific enough to act on. Chapters end with clear next steps instead of vague inspiration. When something is not worth the money, we say so. When a cabin, a visa route, or a shore excursion is a trap, we say that too. The goal is to turn a nervous first-timer into a relaxed regular.
About Leo Sotropa
I am Leo Sotropa, the author behind A Country A Month and the Ultimate Ship Guides series. I write the guide I always wished I had: one book, one ship or one country, researched properly and told straight. I have travelled across four continents and sailed more than twenty cruise ships, and every guide grows out of that firsthand footwork plus a great deal of homework.
I am inspired by Rick Steves — the honest, practical, been-there voice that treats readers as smart travelers rather than a market to sell to. I hope that one day A Country A Month earns that same depth and trust.
